Online-shop for casts of Vendian fossils from collection of the Paleontological
Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences under construction.
Fossils are the national property and they cannot be exported from
Russia without the proper permission of the Ministry of Culture. The permission
can be given only if the experts of the Ministry of Culture will establish that
these fossils have no scientific value. All fossils of the Vendian organisms
have scientific value and nobody has ever received and hasn’t applied for
permission to export of these fossils. In spite of this, imprints of the Vendian
Metazoa from the Russia set out for sale at auctions and shops all over the World.
And illegal collections of the Vendian fossils from Russia are known in the USA,
Italy, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, in museums of Europe and South Korea. All
these fossils have been exported from the country under false documents or have
been forwarded through border secretly and it is an act of smuggling. Smugglers
hide this fact with the result that most fossils sellers and collectors do not
know that these fossils were collected and exported from Russia illegally. Even
large museums which value the reputation and will never acquire the stolen goods
become victims of the deceit and buy Ediacaran fossils from Russia.
Most fossils sellers value the reputation and when they found out
that the fossils they were selling were a contraband they removed the fossils
from sale. But there are traders who willful sell contraband and defraud buyers.
